Indian Knowledge System (IKS)

ONAM

Onam, the vibrant harvest festival of Kerala, was celebrated to highlight the rich traditions, cultural practices, and wisdom inherent in Indian heritage while fostering Indian heritage, community engagement and learning opportunities. Onam was celebrated with 5 group dances, 1, solo dance and some group songs. Students participated with lot of enthusiasm. The Program started at 1.45pm in I floor seminar hall and ended at 3.15pm.College boys and girls equally attended the program.

BHARATANATYAM

The Indian Knowledge System Unit of Velammal Institute of Technology orchestrated a captivating Bharathanatyam event on March 15th, 2023, held at the esteemed TVIS Auditorium. With 25 enthusiastic participants, the CULTS 2K23 Bharatanatyam competition unfolded under the discerning eye of Ms. B. Subashini. The event illuminated the profound significance of Bharatanatyam in Indian heritage and daily life. Each performer adeptly conveyed diverse stories, emotions, and mythological narratives, showcasing grace, precision, and expressive gestures that left the audience spell bound. The primary aim was to cultivate artistic merit among students, enriching their skills for future endeavors. Moreover, the event highlighted the physical benefits of Bharatanatyam, enhancing flexibility, strength, and coordination, while fostering cultural enrichment and personal development. Discipline, concentration, and grace were also nurtured among the students, reflecting the holistic benefits of this art form. Beyond artistic prowess, Bharatanatyam serves as a conduit for historical and cultural understanding, deepening the audience’s appreciation for its significance. The resounding success of this event underscored the institute’s commitment to preserving, promoting, and propagating India’s rich cultural heritage. As a token of appreciation, our esteemed Head of Department honored the judge with a momento, symbolizing gratitude for her invaluable contribution to the event.

SILAMBAM TRAINING PROGRAM

Silambam, also known as Silambattam, a traditional Indian martial art, traces its roots back thousands of years and holds a significant place in Indian culture and history. In the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, Mr.B. Divagar, a student enrolled in the same department, provided training to male and female students on 08.02.2023. This training aimed to mastering various Silambam techniques. Students learned fundamental stances, strikes, and defensive maneuvers using staffs and sticks. This report elucidates the integration of traditional Indian knowledge systems within a Silambam training program, emphasizing its role in fostering holistic development among students. By infusing ancient wisdom with modern methodologies, the training endeavors to not only enhance physical prowess but also nurture mental acuity and cultural appreciation. Throughout the program, emphasis was placed on safety measures and proper form, ensuring a conducive learning environment

YOGA AWARENESS PROGRAM

27 NCC Cadets and 73 students of Velammal Institute of Technology actively participated in the Yoga awareness Programme held in the Campus on 24.06.2022 under the guidance of  Dr. S. Arumugam, Yoga Therapist. The event emphasized on the significance of Yoga in daily life. Yoga aims to achieve harmony and balance by integrating physical postures (Asanas), breath control (Pranayama), meditation (Dhyana), and ethical principles (Yamas and Niyamas).It is valued not only for its physical benefits but also for its ability to reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and promote overall well-being. Various styles of yoga, such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Kundalini, and Yin Yoga, were catered to meet the different preferences and needs of the students. Our beloved Principal applauded the chief Guest and honoured him with a shawl and a momento.
