The Robotics Society (TRS)

About TRS2025-262024-25

The Robotics Society (TRS) is a premier professional body dedicated to advancing robotics research, education, and innovation across India. Established with the vision of creating a unified platform for the robotics community, TRS brings together researchers, academicians, industry professionals, and students working across diverse domains of robotics. Over the years, robotics in India has evolved beyond traditional industrial automation into areas such as healthcare, rehabilitation, education, autonomous systems, and service robotics. TRS plays a vital role in supporting this transformation by fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and interdisciplinary research. Indian robotics researchers have similarly grown from a handful to over a hundred engaged in research labs, education, industry, atomic energy, etc. Many of us feel that it is about time to form an academic society to further augment our robotics activities and for better interaction among ourselves. With this objective, researchers got together to form a society on 10th July 2011. Officially, The Robotics Society was registered on June 21, 2017.

The Society actively promotes teaching, training, and cutting-edge research in robotics while encouraging strong interaction between academia, R&D laboratories, and industry. Through flagship events like the biennial Advances in Robotics (AIR) international conference, as well as national workshops, faculty development programs, and webinars, TRS provides a dynamic platform for sharing ideas and showcasing innovations. TRS also collaborates with leading global professional organizations such as IEEE and ASME, strengthening international engagement and promoting global standards in robotics research and practice. A key focus of TRS is nurturing the next generation of roboticists through its Student Chapter initiatives, enabling hands-on learning, networking, and leadership opportunities at institutions across the country. Additionally, the Society contributes to the dissemination of knowledge through newsletters, publications, and community-driven initiatives. By bridging the gap between research and real-world applications, TRS is committed to building a collaborative, innovative, and impactful robotics ecosystem in India that addresses societal challenges and drives technological advancement.

Note that in some of the earlier documents, Robotics Society of India (RSI) might be mentioned, which needs to be read as “The Robotics Society”, the registered name of the society.
