❤️ A GIFT OF LIFE: BLOOD DONATION DRIVE 2025-2026


With a strong commitment to community welfare and humanitarian service, the Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit of Velammal Institute of Technology organized a Blood Donation Camp on 04 November 2025 in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Madras Medical College, Egmore.
The programme commenced with the inauguration by Dr. N. Balaji, Principal, Dr. S. Soundararajan, Vice Principal, and the Heads of various Departments. During the inaugural session, the dignitaries highlighted the vital role of voluntary blood donation in saving lives and encouraged students to embrace community service as an integral part of their personal and professional growth.
The programme attracted enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff, reflecting the institution’s culture of social responsibility. Out of 165 registered volunteers, 115 eligible donors contributed blood, helping strengthen the blood reserves required for emergency healthcare services.
Medical experts from Madras Medical College conducted health screening, blood collection, and awareness sessions on voluntary blood donation. Student volunteers actively coordinated registrations and donor assistance, ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme.
The programme enhanced students’ understanding of humanitarian values while supporting healthcare institutions through voluntary blood collection. The successful execution of the event reflected the institution’s continued emphasis on community engagement and social responsibility.
EVERY DROP MAKES A DIFFERENCE AND COUNTS


The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit of Velammal Institute of Technology, in association with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and the Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Hospital for Women and Children, Madras Medical College, Egmore, Chennai, successfully organized a Blood Donation Camp on 04.11.2024 at Velammal Knowledge Park. The programme aimed to promote voluntary blood donation and create awareness among students and staff about the importance of donating blood to save lives.
The camp was inaugurated in the presence of Sri K. Razak (Advisor), Dr. N. Balaji (Principal), Dr. S. Soundararajan (Vice Principal), and the Heads of Various Departments, who encouraged students to actively participate in this humanitarian initiative. The event was conducted under the supervision of a qualified medical team from Madras Medical College, ensuring that all donor screening and blood collection procedures followed the prescribed health and safety guidelines.
The programme witnessed an overwhelming response, with 150 students, faculty members, and staff volunteering for blood donation. Following the medical screening process, 100 eligible donors successfully donated blood, resulting in the collection of 100 units of blood. Student volunteers efficiently coordinated the registration process, guided donors, and assisted the medical team throughout the event.
The collected blood units were safely transported to the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Madras Medical College, Egmore, where they will support patients requiring emergency and life-saving transfusions. The event concluded with positive feedback from participants and organizers, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to social responsibility, community service, and humanitarian values. The programme also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Tamil Nadu State Blood Transfusion Council and the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Government General Hospital, Egmore, Chennai, recognizing the successful organization of the camp.
Awareness Programme on Personal Hygiene & Health Fitness

The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit of our college organized an Awareness Programme on Personal Hygiene & Health Fitness on 08.10.2022 at 10:30 am, in the Government Higher Secondary School, Padirivedu, Madarapakkam. The session began with a brief overview of the importance of personal hygiene and health fitness by the chief guest Dr.N.Gobinath, Chief Doctor, Indian Red Cross Society, Egmore, Tamilnadu Branch. The Awareness Programme aimed to empower individuals with knowledge and practical skills to maintain and improve their health. Students were also given a detailed outline on daily hygiene practices, oral hygiene, bathing, nail care, and hair care, followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Prof.K.Razak, Advisor gave the Inaugural address and emphasized the importance of donating blood. Dr.S.Soundararajan, Principal, addressed the gathering about the advantages of blood donation and motivated the students to give blood to the needy people. Mr.K,Namachivayam, Chief Doctor, Indian Red Cross Society, Egmore, Tamilnadu Branch motivated the students about the importance of Blood Donation camp.

Blood Donation Awareness Campaign
The YRC Club of Velammal Institute of Technology organized the Blood Donation Awareness Campaign on 14.02.2021 at 10:00 A.M at the Andarkuppam village. 30 members participated in the Campaign and created awareness. Prof.K.Razak, Advisor gave the Inaugural address and emphasized the importance of donating blood. Dr.S.Soundararajan, Principal, addressed the gathering about the advantages of blood donation and motivated the students to give blood to the needy people. During the programme. a number of slogans and capturing quotes were displayed by the students.

Blood Donation Camp – IRCS

Velammal Institute of Technology organized the Blood Donation Camp on 17.03.2021 at 10:00 A.M , in the college campus.The volunteers involved staff and students who donated blood to the Indian Red Cross Society, Egmore, Chennai. There were approximately 127 members who donated the blood in the camp Prof.K.Razak, Advisor of Velammal Institute of Technology gave the Inaugural address and stressed the importance of donating blood. Dr.S.Soundararajan, Principal of Velammal Institute of Technology addressed the gathering about the advantages of blood donation and motivated the students to give blood to the needy people.
Blood Donation Camp – Right Hospitals
The YRC Unit of Velammal Institute of Technology organized the Blood Donation Camp on 04.11.2019 at 9:00 A.M, in the college campus on the ocassion of the birthday of our honourable Chairman Sir, Shri M.V.Muthuramalingam. 103 student volunteers and staff members donated blood to the Right Hospitals, Chennai. Prof.K.Razak, Advisor gave the inaugural address and emphasized the importance of donating blood. Dr.S.Soundararajan, Principal, addressed the gathering about the advantages of blood donation and motivated the students to donate blood. Dr.M.Vinothini, Chief Doctor, Right Hospitals, applauded the efforts taken by the Management.
